USING ORTHODONTICS TO GUIDE JAW GROWTH IN CHILDREN

At Rad Orthodontics, we pride ourselves in providing the best possible care to all our patients of all ages. For children, we can often spot pretty early on when their jaw is too short or too narrow, or not growing straight. When this happens, we like to use dentofacial orthopedics to guide facial growth in order to allow for proper alignment of permanent teeth.

With the help of technology, Dr. Rad is able to take multiple measurements and then use his expertise in facial alignment and proportions to determine how best to guide the jaw’s growth. Depending on what is required, treatment may include the use of expanders, specialized appliances like headgear and even braces. These appliances help enlarge the jaw as needed based on facial proportions and tooth eruption patterns. The end goal is always to ensure the upper and lower jaws are properly aligned.

Early treatment in cases like these is imperative as it can prevent the need for future surgical corrections. To make sure that your child’s jaw is growing properly, you can have them see an orthodontist as early as age seven.
